My first Pea

Here is my first picked pea. I picked it on Friday afternoon. Isn't it glorious?

I have picked some more today, so the pea is not so lonely anymore. Wesley tasted garden peas for the first time today and now loves them! So I had alot more then what I have now - I know better to put myself between a growing teenager and food!
It makes you wonder how many other foods on the "yuck" list would make it to the "yes please more" list if they tried the home grown type.

  1. When my kids were little, they used to bring home half a dozen friends and the whole gang of kids would make a beeline for the pea patch after school every day. Several of the parents told me that their kids wouldn't eat vegetables at home, yet they would happily eat peas straight from the pod till the patch was picked out. Only when the strawberries started coming on did I ever have a hope of getting any peas as far as the kitchen.

  2. Its amazing how different the taste is, the kids also eat the carrots like they are going out of fashion! My husband had no luck with our strawberries last year between ants, birds and kids. I transplanted them and have taken over the growing - so will shall see!
