Soft Soap

I did a batch of soap up yesterday afternoon and I used a higher than usual vegetable oil content, as I was just using up the odds and ends of what I had.

It took at least 4 times as long to get to trace and when I turned it out tonight it was softer than usual. I am just going to leave it a few weeks more than normal, it smells and looks cute. I am going to have to put in an order for more smells, they all sound so great that if you don;t check yourself you could go waaay over budget!

In other news today for $2.50 I got a linen tea towel, a book and this fab linen table cloth from Vinnies! It shows all the sights of the Gold Coast but not one theme park!

It depicts a more quaint Gold Coast with people having dinner being labelled "night life" and highlights being walking on the beach and fishing,  a little 60's snapshot!

Soap ... Out!

The soap is out and cut! I have it resting on cake cooling racks for curing. It smells so nice, I hope 6 weeks go fast!

The green is May Chang. I am so loving the waves on these bars from a silicone cake tin!

Here are the orange juice box tea tree soap. It has made a really good size cake of soap.

Soap Making

This morning Mum came in so we could make a couple of batches of soap each. I don't know why I don't do this more often, it is so fun!

Here we are waiting for the oils to cool, which didn't take long since it isn't the warmest of days today. We did the making out on the back deck which was warmer than inside and has the bonus of having electricity so we could use the stick blender.

This batch was a tea tree oil one and smells lovely. Actually the whole house smells rather nice.

I poured one of my batches into a orange drink container, If I had some one litre milk containers I would have used those. I will be much better organised next time! My second batch I did with a May Chang scent and green colouring, Mum went with lavender and purple colouring. I also soaked a loofah in some soap, I had read about it and am hoping it turns out.

All going well you will see some bars of soap on here tomorrow!

Maiden Solo Soapmaking!

Well I did it, I made soap by myself! I used eucalyptus oil and did a pink layer and a green layer in the silicon mould. I am hoping it will turn out ok. You can just see the layer through the mould in the picture below. I put a black mark on the picture to show it a bit better.

I think the green looks a little snottish. What do you think?

This is a little bit of leftover that I threw into this mould. It lets you see the colour a bit better.

A little bit of this and that!

Today Mum and Dad went home, I asked them to stay for another four weeks but they didn't go for it! Lol! It was really nice to see them and makes me wish we lived a lot closer. By the way, I know you are going to tell me to take off your picture!

Yesterday Mum showed me how to make soap and it was really really fun and a bit exciting! We made some purple soap with a blend of lavender, May chang and rose geranium. Looks great and smells lovely. Ive got it curing in the lounge room and bought some more ingredients to make more soap. Mum Left me some colours and showed me a bunch of websites, on one a lady had made this yummy looking chocolate cake all out of soap - it was really incredible.

Before they left we went garage saling this morning. The first one was really good and I got some jelly moulds to use in soap making, Mum bought me some craft magazines and Dad bought something for his beer making. The next couple were pretty ordinary but the one at St Vinnies was good with me scoring a bread maker and a 1960's picnic basket which is really cute.

When you look at this picnic case you just think Gidget and you even might start singing "we're all going on a summer holiday"!
